Karne Frio: Ham, Bacon and Sausage

Karne Frio is one of the fast rising resto among the students in Los Banos, their main products are Bacon, Ham and Sausage  which are served throughout the day. The resto is not just about pork meat or beef, they also serve chicken, fish meats, pasta, vegetable salads as well. They confidently claim thay they have the best tasting bacon in town which according to them are their own produced. 

My wife and I tried some of their menu which includes: Pork Marinada, Chicken Kebab, Classic Red Spaghetti, Meatzanini and Shakes- I'm not satisfied with their shakes tastes like food color. Overall,  the food taste great at an affordable price and they also have a student serving  for  every menu. The place is small, perhaps it's designed for midgets and most of the time desserts are not available - I guess they should remove it from their menu.

The bestsellers are: Bacon, Gourmet Sausages, Marinadas, Panini, and their version of U.K.'s Bangers and Mash, we'll try that one next time.

Big Belly's LB

Big Belly's started out as a small kiosk in Robinsons Cybergate Tower 3 and expanded to have their own store and now with different branches including here in Laguna and Batangas.

The food is just average, but they have a good meal package at a very affordable price for only 75 pesos. A variance of  Pork, Chicken and Fish, then you can choose between different sauces (cheese, teriyaki, kung pao and garlic) plus a hefty serving of Rice bowl which also comes with a free drink, now that is what we call value meal.

What I personally like about the setting of the place are the display of pop culture paintings which features pot-bellied superheroes. Since this is one of the most affordable food station compare to those in food court, they usually have huge number of customers and order time might take a while.

Scarbourough Shoal Grill and Seafood Resto

Named after the Scarborough Shoal,  or to what Philippines refers to as Panatag Shoal or Bajo de Masinloc — is one of the crucial and disputed land formations between China and the Philippines which lies about 118 nautical miles west of Zambales.

On the otherhand, Scarbourough Shoal Grill is located in San Carlos, Pangasinan - due to the familiarity of the restos' name, I've decided to pay it a little visit together with my wife to see what they have to offer. We are in the right place and time that they offer an "Eat All You Can" promo during Tusedays from 11am to 2pm.

For only 179 pesos, one can have an unlimited drinks and a hefty serving of dishes which includes: Lengua de Gato, Marinated Pork Strips, Seafood Pakbet (Crab, Squid & Osyter), Marinated Shrimps and Kalderetang Kambing; soup and dessert are also included. The food is really "sulit" for it's price, though the "Embutido" is somehow a little bit salty, but then again it's still better than any fast food or restos found in the city.

There are also Acoustic Live band performance during  7pm to 12mn.

Box Stab

When I went to Dalcielo Bakehaus in Lopez Ave., Los Banos which at the time was at capacity,  I chanced upon Box Stab right across the street, so I tried some of the foods that they offer. The resto is a newly opened cafe which specialize in Herb Infused drinks and cold coffee frappe. Their name sounds like back stab which everyone of us surely detest.

Here are my verdict with regards to the foods that I've ordered: Sweet & Sour Fish Fillet is too sour - it's like I'm eating pure citrus. Chocolate vanilla cake is too sweet, not really good for those with serious insulin problem, it somehow tastes like puding sold in local "panaderia". Bacon with chicken cordon bleu is alright with me, though it's quite oily (they should have at least let the excess oil be absorbed somewhere). On the otherhand, I'm satisfied with their Iced White Chocolate and Chicken Pesto, perhaps that's the expertise of their chef. But for an affordable price, I can still say it's okay overall.
